The System

It is estimated that in five years time half of new car registrations will be vehicles powered by electricity. So where is this additional electricity going to come from? It could be the grid, but the grid may not have a enough capacity. And we are not alone in this view, see Sky’s recent comment click here. However what about from your own resource, your own garage or garden building? That would be free electricity!

Many homes have solar panels already, but these are focused on supplying some or all of the domestically consumed power. An electric car would require more power so an additional source would be required. What we have done at Leofric Building Systems is to introduce specially designed aluminium posts that are intergral with our concrete sections thereby enabling solar arrays and wind turbines to be mounted onto the building without any holes being drilled through the roof or mounted upon it. As standard every new Leofric building can be ordered with such sections, extruded in thick, powder coated, aluminium already in place. Bolting solar arrays or wind turbine masts requires no change to the building whatsoever. Without such pre-engineered sections the concrete would require drilling, which usually cracks the panels. The photo on the left shows the concrete corner as used in all brands currently. The photo on the right shows the aluminium profile which creates the corner and supports a multitude of items from wind turbine masts and solar panels support structures to hanging baskets and garden seating.

How all these items can be secured

to the aluminium sections is shown here

We mentioned wind. Up until now most home energy systems have been based around solar panels. New developments in wind turbine design may well challenge solar as the preferred electrical generating system. Major developments in wind turbine design are now coming to market and we predict that before long this source of energy will be more popular as it can produce electricity 24/7.

So with wind, or wind plus solar, much power can be harvested from nature, with the wind operating regardless of sunlight and with our mounting system being suitable for auto sun tracking thereby increasing solar based output.

With this much power available, power storage is the next requirement. Today there are many new concepts coming in this technology, with lithium sulphur as well as lithium iron and other variants. However it may even be a new version of the lead acid battery simply because they are cheap and their lead plates can be recycled.

Thus your Leofric garage or garden building can support and house your electrical storage system. Thus no storage units have to be brought into the house.
